Theme: Being Transformed into His Likeness.*

 *PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF GHANA*

*Date: 2nd March, 2025.*

*Texts: Ex 34:29-35, 2 Cor 3:12-4:2, Luke 9:28-36*

*Occasion:*

*Transfiguration Sunday*

Transfiguration does not seem to have been an unusual experience with our Lord. He was accustomed to going apart to pray, ascend mountains, and spend whole nights in devotion. He was accustomed to meeting heavenly beings there. He was accustomed to shining among them as light. All this we know. But once He took three earthly witnesses and permitted them to see angels, who strengthened Him, comforted Him, and ministered to Him. Such a light in such a body was Jesus Christ when His soul had been kindled by converse with Moses and Elias upon them, which at His birth made heaven sing. Jesus, by this experience, showed them His source of His strength. Again, He strengthened His disciples to meet the trouble that was coming.

*The significance of the transfiguration.*

1. That Christ is glorified. He is personally transfigured in heaven. He is changed, and His body is a glorious one.

2. The glory of Christ is the glory of One who is appointed the Lord and Lawgiver of man. He is to be heard.

3. It is the glory of One who passed to honour through suffering and death.

4. It is the glory of One whom both worlds (Heaven and Earth) obey and honour

5. It is the glory of One in whom all history finds its meaning and its honour.

*The significance of going up the mountain.*

1. It means one would have to sacrifice things that give him comfort to be able to encounter the glory of the Lord. While others were sleeping and making merry, they were there with the Lord before they saw the glory of Jesus Christ.

2. Strengthen your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Draw closer to Christ in devotion to behold His glory

3. Leave the garbage that weighs you down at the feet of the mountain. Things that easily beset you should be thrown away from your life (sin, attitude, perception). If you want to want up the mountain, throw away the garbage.

4. Seek to please no one but the Lord. If you live to please human beings, it will be very difficult if not impossible to climb up the mountain with Jesus to see His glory.

5. Meditation and the reading of the word. Constantly look into the mirror. That is the word of God.

6. Enter into a relation with the right calibre of people. The people you associate yourself with can lead you to see the glory of God or can take you away far away from God.

7. Be prepared to suffer for the Lord.

*Being transformed into His likeness*

1. Purpose in your heart to live in holiness and a life that is pleasing to God alone

2. Remain obedient to God’s word in spite of the price that is attached to it.

3. Redirect your ministry and passion towards that of Christ in all situations

4. Make prayer your lifeline and always make time to be in the presence of God

5. Free yourself from all forms of malice and hypocrisy

6. Being prepared to suffer for the Lord. His attitude towards the cross is the focus.

The glory of the Old Testament Law was temporary and finally faded away, but the glory of new covenant grace grows brighter. Moses only reflected God’s glory and had to wear a veil so the people could not see the glory disappear, but God’s people today radiate God’s glory from within as they see Jesus in the Word (Mirror) and became more like Him. Ours is to be a constant transfiguration experience as we walk with the Lord. The word transfigures the New Testament Christian.

*What to do*

1. Look intently into the word of God daily to grow into His likeness

2. Strengthen your relationship with Christ with all seriousness

3. Pray with the word of God and with the attitude of Christ towards prayer

4. Discipline yourself in order to be transformed into His likeness. Indiscipline Christian can never behold the glory of the Lord

5. Walk in the company of believers who tailor their lives according to the word of God.

May the Lord help you to leave your garbage at the feet of the mountain to be able to walk up the hill with Jesus to encounter His eternal glory!

Amen!

*Prayer Topics*

1. Pray for the grace to grow into the likeness of Christ

2. Pray for the realization of the Kutunse project

3. Pray for God’s direction throughout the month

4. Pray for divine providence.

May the Lord bless you!
